Kings Place Gets Top BCO Award

Kings Place in London has been awarded top honours at the annual British Council for Offices awards ceremony recently. The awards are given to acknowledge superbly crafted and designed commercial buildings. Kings Place was named ‘Best of Best’ in addition to being judged the Best Commercial Workplace. The business hub was constructed on neglected and unused space by architects Dixon Jones and Peter Millican.

The BCO judges the buildings on basis of innovation in engineering, environment friendly design, business compatible solutions, and ingenuity in design. The awards received an unprecedented number of entries this year. Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman BCO- John Forrester said that the award winners represent the growing focus on quality and aesthetics in commercial space construction. He went on to say that Kings Place had dramatically altered the traditional view of what business centres should be like. The commercial complex had been designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing landscape.

Architects Dixon Jones and Peter Millican outlined the design of the building using a neglected and unused section of land as the proposed site. The complex has within its beautifully designed and completely functional interiors, venue for creative pursuits like music and art, in addition to office space and bar and restaurants. Special acoustic designing was incorporated at the time of construction to bar external noise from entering and disrupting music performances. Temperature and lighting control were studied and implemented carefully to preserve valuable works of art in the visual arts space. The shared office complex houses the offices of The Guardian and The Observer.
