Amos Tamam Produces Taxi Industry Wares and Solutions
Monday, September 21st, 2009For Amos Tamam, formulating solutions for the taxi fleet industry is a driving force in his life. From his previous work repairing cabs, to working on taximeters and systems, through to developing credit card payment of cab fares, his experiences in the industry are rich ones. His loyalty to the industry continues today.
Embracing technology and adapting it to the taxi industry is a passion of Verifone Transportation Systems, Inc. CEO Amos Tamam. His decades of experience in the industry began upon his arrival from Israel in the early 1980’s. Fortified with training in electrical engineering, he inevitably immersed himself in the taxi fleet environment working on repairing taxis. He also gained valuable know-how on fleet management.
As he gained knowledge of the business he applied his technical acumen to the development of the first credit card taxi meter. He later played a major role in developing and disseminating an advanced taximeter, the Taxitronic (TX36). Now, as head of Verifone Transportation Systems, Inc., Amos Tamam oversees the Company’s taxi fare payment and automation systems in cabs in New York City and Philadelphia.
The payment system uses a taximeter that connects to a credit card reader and a wireless modem. This modem links the system to the fare payer’s financial institution. The transaction finishes upon authentication and charge approval. The system contains a receipt printer for a transaction record. The taxi customer then has a record of the date, time, taxi company car number, and other information. The system promotes efficiency, is cost-effective, and means cab drivers can carry less cash.
With decades of know how in the taxi fleet industry behind him, Amos Tamam is looking forward to new opportunities. His electrical engineering education and real-world working experience are the foundation that allows him to systematically and creatively innovate. His goal is to continually provide options to help taxi fleet owners operate cost-effectively.
